Let’s face it, capturing the presence and creating condition indicators of roadside assets (besides pavements and bridges) for Transportation Asset Management (TAM) is costly and time consuming. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) the ability to turn digital images into powerful asset inventory and condition data sets has become much more accessible. Participants will learn how the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cost-effective data collection methods can support asset identification and condition rating in detail, including project case studies with the pros, cons and limitations of each method identified. This will include: · Identification standards to be utilized, · Rating schemes used, · Use cases of current technology from agencies, and · Application of new technologies. The decisions that can be made with this data will also be outlined. Additionally, the presentation will also discuss the risk management strategies to be considered with respect to capturing essential information regarding the presence and condition of assets. Risks will include safety, budgetary, resilience, sustainability, and political factors, among others. The benefits will be explored from (1) an asset owner, (2) community being served by the assets, and (3) political perspectives using the risk categories mentioned above. The results of the presentation will provide a framework for agencies to use to justify the expenditure of funds on creating or expanding their asset inventory and condition ratings and provide good practice for this data collection effort. Bio: Jason Trotter Jason Trotter serves as the Director of Business Development for Transconomy. Jason has over 20 years of experience working with local and state agencies on pavement and asset management. His experience includes pavement condition assessment, ground penetrating radar, FWD, right of way assets, and management systems for data analysis, working with civil engineers, software professionals, data technicians, and data scientists. Jason has worked with more than 20 State DOTs, 4 provincial transportation agencies, and numerous city and county agencies as a Project Manager, Contract Manager, and Project Development.
